Curriculum Vitae

Torsten Markus was appointed Professor of Energy Engineering and Energy Systems with a focus on Thermodynamics at the Technische Hochschule Mannheim in 2014. Since 2019, he is dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technische Hochschule Mannheim. Coming from Jülich, he brought with him his research activities in the field of Functional Materials and within this framework, laid the foundations for Mannheim's operational research. Another intensive field of research is the development of novel materials, such as for 3D printing, using computational materials science.
Prior to his time at the university, he was head of the "Materials Chemistry" working group at the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH at the Institute for Energy and Climate Research, where he also previously worked as a postdoc. During his time at the Jülich Research Institute, Torsten Markus completed his habilitation at RWTH Aachen University in the field of "Thermochemistry and Constitutions of High-Temperature Materials".
Prior, he completed his doctorate on the topic of "Thermochemical investigations of the high-temperature corrosion of polycrystalline alumina by metal halides" at RWTH Aachen University.
